Berg River Dam
The Berg River Dam is a concrete-faced rockfill dam located near Franschhoek, with a net storage capacity of 129.4 million m3. The dam has a height of 70 meters and a length of 929 meters.

The Berg River Dam is unique in South Africa, because it’s the first dam designed, constructed and operated in accordance with the guidelines of the United Nations World Commission on Dams. These guidelines ensure that the ecological integrity of the Berg River is maintained.

Bicycling Empowerment Network (BEN)

BEN’s mission is to alleviate poverty through the promotion of the use of the bicycle in all of its forms, in order to enhance low-cost non-motorised transport, and improve health though linking exercise and mobility. (Annual Report BEN 2007)

BEN is involved in several bicycle projects. Besides the distribution of bicycles to South Africans, BEN is also involved in the Bicycle Partnership Programme (BPP). The BPP will work on making new urban development and transport policies cycling-inclusive.

Bus Rapid Transit Cape Town (HHO consultants)

In the Public Transport Action Plan released by the Department of Transport several public transport projects have been announced. Most of the projects in the Transport Action Plan focus on Rapid Rail and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

In 2008 the construction of the BRT route in Cape Town will start. HHO consultants is involved in the construction of the route along the Koeberg Road and Marine Drive. Part of construction of the route is also the upgrade of the Koeberg Interchange which includes the widening of the intersection and in future phases a bus way and bus lanes.

N2 gateway housing project

The poverty and inequality in Cape Town is illustrated by the informal settlements along the N2 freeway. The N2 Gateway project is intended to provide housing for 15 500 households living in the N2 informal settlements and for about 6000 households living in backyard shacks in adjacent areas.

Cape Peninsula University of Technology: Water Supply and Sanitation Unit

The Water Supply and Sanitation Unit at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology promotes sustainable water supply and sanitation services in accordance with VISION 21 and Millennium Development Goals (MDG) principles.

The Unit has several research projects related to the delivery of sanitation services and water supply to all communities, especially the informal and unserviced areas.
